As we approach 2015 I can't help wonder what further advance there will be, what process will be streamlined next, and what app will take the world by storm.
I'm 33, and the world is a very different place since I was a Teen playing snake on my state of the art Nokia. It even had a button to push to release the keyboard! I don't class myself as a techno-geek like many of the youth of today, neither would I class myself as Anti-Tech. I muddle along in the middle - I have an Iphone 4, use the interbubble and even post this blog. But I cant' help wonder what is next around the corner, and how this is going to impact us, both professionally and personally.
Using Facebook, Twitter or Flickr etc I can achieve in 1 post the same amount that used to take 2 pads of A4. I can practically like and follow a single loaf of bread if I want to (and I'm sure there are people that do). Granted it is revolutionising Customer Service, with the Consumer able to make their own purchases, self-service style. This helps with the running costs which, hopefully is reflected in the price. But at what cost and is it really better??
What about the person who got laid off who used to perform that skill? Have they been developed and adapted to help them make it in a Modern Techno World?
Let's think about Self Service Checkouts. Most people use them because the queues are shorter than those operated by a Human. Is this because it's quicker than waiting for the Checkout Assistant to do their job, or is it because in the Techno-World we now live in we're encouraged to use the most advance, and therefore better way of doing things? Whichever it is there are more of them appearing, all over the place.
Personally - I hate spending 10 minutes in front of a till trying to explain to it that I do not have an unexplained item in my bagging area.
Whatever happens in 2015, I think there is a real chance that the Winner of Customer Service 2015 Award will actually be won by a customer....for exceptional service to themselves.
Let's hope that doesn't happen just yet, and keep old Joe Bloggs in his job for a little while longer.
